The Ministry for the Interior has officially declared Friday, June 6, 2025, a statutory public holiday in observance of Eid-Ul-Adha.

This announcement was made in a press release dated May 29, 2025, and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka.

The statement read:
“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 6th June 2025, marks Eid-Ul-Adha, which is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”

Eid-Ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail, in obedience to Allah’s command. According to Islamic tradition, Allah intervened at the last moment, providing a ram to be sacrificed in place of Ismail.

The holiday symbolizes faith, obedience, and devotion, and is marked by communal prayers, charitable acts, and the ritual sacrifice of animals. It is a time for Muslims around the world to reflect on the values of selflessness and submission to God's will.

The public is encouraged to observe the day respectfully and in accordance with its religious significance.
