A potentially dangerous situation was averted in the Central Region after a fuel tanker transporting 54,000 litres of petrol crashed at Dominase Toboase along the busy Mankessim–Fosu (N8) highway.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, January 15, 2026, involving a tanker bearing registration number AS 5140-24. Although the vehicle overturned under circumstances yet to be established, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly moved in to secure the area, control traffic, and prevent a possible explosion, as large volumes of fuel posed a serious fire risk.
Confirming the incident, the Deputy Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, ADOI Ebenezer Fiifi Dadzie, expressed concern over the growing crowd at the scene, warning motorists and residents to stay away.
He disclosed that some individuals from nearby communities attempted to siphon fuel, a situation that significantly heightened the danger.
Emergency teams continue to monitor the area as authorities work to clear the tanker and investigate the cause of the accident.
