The Ga West Municipal Assembly has ordered the temporary closure of the Amasaman China Mall after a portion of the structure collapsed on Sunday, December 28.

The Assembly said the incident caused damage to goods within the affected section of the facility and left two people injured, both of whom are currently receiving medical care.

In an interview with Channel One News, the Municipal Chief Executive, John Desmond Sowah Nai, said preliminary assessments by the Municipal Security Coordinating Council (MUSEC) pointed to structural integrity concerns as the cause of the collapse.
“MUSEC took a decision to temporarily halt operations. We have asked China Mall to stop operations temporarily until further notice,” he noted

Mr Sowah Nai assured the public that the mall would only be reopened after all safety recommendations and findings by MUSEC have been fully addressed, to prevent any recurrence and ensure public safety.
