The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the arrest of two of its personnel in connection with an alleged extortion incident tied to illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.

In a statement issued in Accra on Thursday, October 2, 2025, the GAF said the case is under joint investigation with the Ghana Police Service. The alleged incident, which occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025, involved the two soldiers and civilian collaborators at the LongShine Mining Company site in Prestea-Obouho, Western Region.

Signed by the Acting Director General of Public Relations, Navy Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the statement stressed that the military does not tolerate indiscipline or criminal conduct among its ranks.

“If found culpable, personnel will face the law as any citizen of Ghana,” the GAF cautioned, adding that it will not shield any member of the Armed Forces engaged in unlawful activity.

The institution further assured the public of its commitment to maintaining professionalism, discipline, and accountability in all its operations.
