GAF urges media to avoid spreading unverified reports after helicopter crash

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has called on the public, especially media professionals, commentators, bloggers, and content creators, to exercise caution and accuracy in their coverage of the recent Air Force Z-9 helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, which resulted in the deaths of all eight personnel aboard.
In a statement issued by Captain V.A Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF expressed concern over the rise of speculative and unverified reports surrounding the tragic incident.
The statement explained that such unsubstantiated claims not only mislead the public but also intensify the grief of the victims’ families.
“For the sake of the bereaved families and loved ones, the Armed Forces urge media practitioners, panelists, social commentators, bloggers, and content creators to be circumspect in their reportage as a way of according respect to the memories of the fallen heroes and to mitigate the sorrows of the bereaved families,” the statement read.
While acknowledging the strong public interest in the crash, the GAF assured that a thorough investigation has already begun to determine the exact cause. It pledged to leave no stone unturned, even working with international experts if necessary, to bring closure to the tragedy.
“At this point in time, any purported conclusions based on opinion, perceptions, and conjectures will be premature and misleading. The public is therefore advised to be wary of such reportage,” the statement read.
The Armed Forces also expressed their gratitude to the government, institutions, and individuals who have offered support since the crash.
It extended condolences to the families of the fallen service members, describing them as patriots whose sacrifices will not be forgotten.
“May the souls of our patriots continue to rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
