The Office of the Gbese Mantse has said that the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi, has no legal mandate to instruct the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to kick out Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi Bonte II.

The Spokesperson of Gbese Mantse Nii Ayi-Bonte II, Nii Annan Agbo, has subsequently asked the minister to provide proof to back claims that Nii Ayi Bonte II is not qualified and, so, must leave the Regional House of Chiefs.

Nii Annan Agbo comments follow media reports on moves by the ministry to stop Nii Ayi Bonte from holding himself as a member of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

According to the Ministry, Nii Ayi Bonte II was inducted into the House of Chiefs under unclear circumstances, hence the move to have him step aside.

However, Nii Annan Agbo insists the Ministry has erred in its claims.

“The Chieftaincy Minister should know that he has no locus to be saying Nii Ayi Bonte should be set aside. Before you go there, you have to go through a process and Nii Ayi Bonte did not just get up and go to the Regional House of Chiefs. He [Minister] says there is a court case pending so we want him to come out boldly with the suit numbers, at which court that the case is pending,” he told Citi FM.
