As the Black Stars prepare for their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros on Sunday, October 12, former GFA Vice President George Afriyie has voiced strong opposition to any move to dismiss head coach Otto Addo.

Addo, 50, has led Ghana to the brink of a second consecutive World Cup appearance, needing just one point to seal qualification following a commanding 5–0 win over the Central African Republic.

Speaking to Asempa FM, Afriyie cautioned against destabilizing the technical bench at such a critical juncture.

“Sacking Otto Addo at this point is not the right decision,” he said.
“We should get a more qualified coach to support Otto Addo.”

Afriyie’s comments come amid growing public debate over Addo’s long-term future, despite the team’s recent resurgence.

Sports Minister Kofi Adams, in a recent interview, acknowledged Addo’s progress but hinted at government reservations, suggesting the coach had benefited from a measure of luck.

“The government will announce any decisions regarding the head coach at the appropriate time,” Adams stated.

With history on the line, the debate over Addo’s future underscores the high stakes and scrutiny that come with leading Ghana’s most cherished sporting institution.
