Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of German-born Ghanaian defender Leroy Kwadwo, handing the 29-year-old a short-term deal that runs until June 2026.

Kwadwo joins the Bundesliga giants from TSV 1860 Munich and will initially turn out for Dortmund’s U23 side in the Regionalliga for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The centre-back brings experience and maturity to Dortmund’s second team, having spent several seasons in Germany’s lower divisions, where he built a reputation for his physical presence, aerial strength and composure at the back.

For Kwadwo, the move represents a fresh chapter in his career and a chance to work within one of Germany’s most respected football institutions. While his immediate role will be with the U23s, Dortmund’s development structure has often provided a pathway for late bloomers and overlooked talents to push for opportunities higher up the club.

The deal also adds to the growing list of players with Ghanaian heritage making strides within European football, underlining the country’s continued influence across the continent’s leagues.

As the season unfolds, Kwadwo will be aiming to make a strong impression, help stabilise Dortmund’s U23 defence and keep alive hopes of earning a broader role within the club before his contract expires next summer.
