Julian Yao Mawuli Etse, a highly rated German-born Ghanaian defender, has completed a move to SSV Ulm 1846, signing a three-year contract with the recently relegated 2. Bundesliga side.
The 19-year-old joins on a free transfer from VfL Bochum, where he has been a regular fixture since 2018 and trained frequently with the senior squad.
Etse made 18 appearances in the DFB Youth League this season, scoring three goals and showcasing his potential as a reliable and intelligent central defender.

Now donning the number 4 shirt for "Die Spatzen", Etse expressed his excitement about the new chapter in his career:
“I'm happy and grateful to be signing my first professional contract with this storied club. I can't wait to give it my all in front of the fantastic fans at the Donaustadion.”
SSV Ulm’s sporting director Markus Thiele praised the acquisition, highlighting Etse’s style of play and potential:
“Julian Etse is a very talented young player who has impressed us with his style of play. He brings many of the qualities we expect from a central defender. We believe he can make the leap into professional football and will give him the time he needs to get used to everything.”
Etse, born in Germany to Ghanaian parents, remains eligible to represent Ghana internationally, and his progress at Ulm will be closely watched by national team scouts as he embarks on his professional journey.
