The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that the nationwide teacher promotion examinations will take place as scheduled on Monday and Tuesday next week, warning that only candidates issued with official index numbers will be allowed to write the exams.

In a statement dated December 26 and signed by the Acting Deputy Director-General, Prof. Smile Dzisi, the Service assured teachers that the promotion exercise would proceed as planned.

The examinations will be held on Monday, December 29, for candidates seeking promotion to the ranks of Assistant Director II and Principal Superintendent, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Candidates for Assistant Director I and Deputy Director will write their papers on Tuesday, December 30, during the same time period.

GES said the shortlisting of candidates was done strictly in line with approved eligibility and documentation requirements, noting that some applications were therefore not successful. All shortlisted applicants, the Service added, have received official SMS notifications containing their Staff ID, index number and designated examination centre.

According to the statement, access to examination centres will be strictly controlled. Only candidates with valid index numbers will be permitted to sit the examinations, while teachers who did not receive an official SMS or index number have been advised not to report to any centre.

However, GES provided a window for redress for teachers who believe they were unfairly excluded. Eligible teachers who obtained their last promotion in or before 2021 but did not receive an SMS or find their names on the official shortlists are required to submit copies of their last promotion letters and proof of application to their respective regional education offices for review.

On the examination days, candidates are required to present a valid National Identification Card and ensure that their Staff ID and index number are clearly written on all examination papers.

GES appealed to teachers to comply with the guidelines to ensure a smooth, transparent and well-organised promotion exercise, adding that all enquiries and further communication would be handled only through official GES channels.
