The Ghana Education Service (GES) has denied claims that it is secretly recruiting teachers and selling appointment letters for as much as GH₵25,000.

In a statement issued on Friday, December 12, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service said its attention had been drawn to a viral video and media reports alleging an ongoing “secret” recruitment exercise and the payment of money to secure teaching appointments. GES described the claims as false and misleading.

According to the statement, the allegations may have arisen from a recent extension of financial clearance in October 2025 to allow for the onboarding of applicants from the 2024 recruitment exercise whose earlier clearance had expired.

GES explained that the resumption of the onboarding process resulted in the issuance of new appointment letters in some cases. It noted that applicants who had previously been given fake appointment letters were issued genuine ones to enable their proper onboarding.
“For instance, applicants who had earlier been issued with fake appointment letters were given new genuine letters since they could not be onboarded with the fake ones,” the statement said, adding that the new letters were issued free of charge.

GES has urged members of the public who are asked to pay money or who have evidence of such demands to report the matter to the security agencies.

The Service further assured the public that its recruitment procedures remain unchanged, adding that whenever financial clearance is obtained for a main recruitment exercise, an official announcement will be made to invite all qualified candidates to apply.

GES emphasised that its recruitment process is open, transparent, and free of charge.
