Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Randy Abbey, has expressed strong criticism towards the Youth and Sports Ministry regarding the deteriorating state of the Ho Sports Complex.

The facility, constructed with an investment of $4 million, has fallen into disrepair after hosting the 2023 Independence Day celebration.

Dr. Abbey, also the host of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, questioned the rationale behind building such a facility only to neglect its maintenance.

He pointed out that the sporting associations responsible for the stadium should have ensured its upkeep.

The financier of Heart of Lions also lambasted the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other relevant agencies for allowing the stadium, funded by state resources, to deteriorate, thus wasting public money.

He raised concerns about accountability, questioning why those responsible for maintaining the stadium have not faced any scrutiny or consequences.

“The Ho Sports Complex, which was used for Independence Day last year, has now turned into this state, even though it was built with taxpayers' money.

The decision to put the facility there was made by some people who did the needs assessment and everything, but whatever went into it, we do not know.

I am saying that how do you sink millions of dollars into something like this, and just after a year, this is what happened, and people still have their jobs?” he fumed.

In a video shared by sports journalist Saddick Adams on X, the pitch was shown overrun with weeds, covering most of the field.

Additionally, some seats had been removed while others were broken, giving the stadium a neglected and abandoned appearance. The roofing and other parts of the stadium also appeared fragile, making it a hazardous location for any sporting event.

The poor condition of the stadium has raised concerns about the government's and sporting associations' commitment to maintaining the facility after its commissioning.
