Fredrick Acheampong, an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and former CEO of Ashantigold SC, has fallen short in his bid to enter parliament after losing the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency race.

The elections, held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, saw Ghanaians voting for a new president and parliamentary representatives.

Asare, contesting on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket, was defeated by Yakubu Mohammed of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who secured victory with a margin of over a thousand votes.

Despite high hopes and confidence heading into the race, Asare's political aspirations were dashed in his first attempt at securing a parliamentary seat.

He will now have to wait another four years to consider a potential comeback.

In the meantime, Asare, an experienced football administrator and prominent sports journalist, is expected to refocus on his football-related responsibilities and contributions to the development of the sport in Ghana.
