The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has amended its statutes to extend the term limit for its president, vice presidents, and Executive Council members from two to three terms.
The decision was approved during the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress on Tuesday.
GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo explained that the change to Article 37.4 was made to align with FIFA’s governance model.
Under the revised rule, the mandate of the president, vice presidents, and Executive Council members will remain four years per term, starting immediately after the Congress that elects them and ending at the Congress where their successors are chosen.
The amendment sets a maximum of three terms — whether consecutive or not — for the president and all other members of the Executive Council.
This means an individual could serve in the same role for up to 12 years if re-elected.
The GFA says the move brings Ghana’s football governance in line with international best practices.
