The Ghana Football Association has expressed “profound shock and deep sorrow” following the death of Dominic Frimpong, who was killed in an attack on his team’s bus.
Frimpong, 20, is reported to have lost his life after the incident on the Bibiani–Goaso road as Berekum Chelsea returned from a Ghana Premier League fixture.
In an official statement, the GFA described the winger as a promising talent whose dedication and passion embodied the spirit of Ghana’s domestic game.
“This tragic incident is not only a huge loss to Berekum Chelsea but also to Ghana football as a whole,” the statement said.
The Association extended its condolences to Frimpong’s family, teammates, technical staff and management, acknowledging what it called an extremely difficult period for all involved.
The GFA also confirmed it is working closely with the Ghana Police Service and other relevant authorities as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
It has called for swift action to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Beyond the immediate response, the governing body indicated it will engage key stakeholders to review and strengthen security arrangements for clubs travelling for domestic competitions, in an effort to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Association further urged the football community to unite in support of Berekum Chelsea and the bereaved family, as the nation comes to terms with a loss that has shaken Ghanaian football.
