The Ghana Football Association has reportedly ended its working relationship with Black Stars technical advisor Winfried Schäfer, as sweeping changes continue within the senior national team’s technical setup.

‎Schäfer, who was appointed in late 2024 to support Otto Addo following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, departs shortly after Addo’s own dismissal in the aftermath of the March international friendlies.

‎The move forms part of a broader restructuring by the GFA as it looks to rebuild the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

‎Further changes are expected in the coming days, with the incoming head coach likely to be granted the authority to assemble his own backroom staff.

‎Several high-profile names have already been linked with the vacant role, including Slaven Bilić, Carlos Queiroz and Fernando Santos.

‎With time running short, the new coach is expected to be appointed soon and will face the immediate challenge of preparing the team for the global tournament.

‎Ghana have been drawn in a competitive group alongside England, Croatia and Panama, with their World Cup campaign set to begin on 17 June.

‎The latest developments underline the urgency within Ghanaian football as the Black Stars seek stability and direction ahead of one of the sport’s biggest stages.
