Former Black Stars goalkeeper, George Owu, believes that Ghana has the potential to become champions of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) if the current set of players receives the necessary motivation and support.
Ghana secured their tenth consecutive AFCON spot by finishing as winners of Group E in the qualifiers, defeating Central African Republic 2-1 in their last match.
Despite recent criticisms of the team's performance and doubts about their quality, Owu is optimistic about their chances.
He emphasized the importance of support and motivation from Ghanaians to boost the team's morale and performance.
"This Ghana team can win the AFCON with the right support and motivation from Ghanaians", he stated this in an interview with Accra-based Onua FM.
Owu, who played for clubs like Asante Kotoko and Hasaacas during his career, believes that with the right backing, the current squad can bring a trophy home for the nation.
George Owu has a wealth of experience in Ghana's national teams, having played for the Black Satellites, Black Meteors, and ultimately the Black Stars at major tournaments.
He was one of the few home-based players to make Ghana's final squad for their first-ever World Cup appearance in 2006, held in Germany.
