Ghana head coach Otto Addo has provided clarity on the exclusion of Norwich City midfielder Forson Amankwah from the squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Despite Amankwah's strong start to the season, with two assists in five games for Norwich, he was not included in the Black Stars' midfield lineup.
Addo explained that Amankwah's omission is due to a recent shoulder injury sustained in his last match, which occurred just before the squad selection.
"He injured himself in the last game," Addo stated, emphasizing the unfortunate timing of the injury.
However, the coach reassured fans that Amankwah is still an important part of the national team’s plans.
"My assistant coach Joseph Laumann is in contact with him," Addo added, underscoring the team's close monitoring of the player's recovery.
Medical assessments have confirmed that Amankwah does not require surgery and is expected to resume training later this week.
Depending on his recovery progress, he might be available for Norwich City's upcoming match against Coventry City on Saturday.
While Amankwah will not participate in the current round of AFCON qualifiers, Addo hinted at a potential future call-up.
"He will be on standby this time, but maybe he will come next time," the coach concluded, leaving the door open for the young midfielder's return to the national team setup.
