Ghana head coach Avram Grant has been blocked from leaving the country on yet another holiday break, according to a top official.

Wilfred Osei Kwaku, a key member of the Black Stars Management Committee, said that the Israeli asked to fly to the United Kingdom right after Ghana’s friendly against South Africa on Tuesday. But Osei claims he moved quickly to stop the move.

“After the game he (Grant) had planned to go back to the UK, but I had to stop him looking at the situation we find ourselves in. You know what has been going on and so it was important for us to meet him. We will be meeting him...to discuss issues going forward.”

Grant has been a divisive topic among Black Stars fans ever since the last Africa Cup of Nations when he constantly stayed outside the country instead of monitoring local talents himself, which is what Ghanaians expect a national team coach to do.

In early March this year, the Ghana FA ordered the former Chelsea coach back into the country after he had been away for three months, despite the local leagues being in session the whole time. In a letter at the time, the FA wrote: “The position of the Emergency Committee is that you have not been given any permission or approval to perform any monitoring work in Europe for the months of January, February and March, 2016."

Grant eventually returned, but has continued to stay out of the country for the most part. It is not clear if his contract explicitly obliges him to be in the country while the leagues are in session.
