Ghana's Black Satellites put on a resilient second-half display but ultimately lost 2-1 to defending champions Nigeria in the final of the 2024 WAFU B U20 Championship at the Stade de Kegue in Lomé, Togo.

Nigeria’s Kparabo Arieri secured an early advantage for the Flying Eagles with a first-half brace, giving them a 2-0 lead.

Ghana fought back in the second half, with star forward Jerry Afriyie pulling one back in the 75th minute to bring his tournament goal tally to five.

Despite their late pressure and missed opportunities, the Black Satellites couldn’t find an equalizer.

Afriyie’s outstanding tournament performance earned him the Most Valuable Player award, as well as the Golden Boot with five goals in five matches.

Both Ghana and Nigeria have secured spots at the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, which will serve as the qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, with the top four teams advancing to the global tournament.
