The Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service has taken decisive disciplinary action against the heads of three technical institutes following verified reports of unauthorised fee collection and extortion at their schools.

The affected institutions are Agona Swedru Technical Institute in the Central Region, Sunyani Technical Institute in the Bono Region, and Madina Technical Institute in the Greater Accra Region.

In a statement, the Ghana TVET Service said the allegations include the charging of several unapproved fees, such as admission charges, boarding protocol payments, levies for changing residential status, fashion practical item costs, bedsheet fees, and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) dues.

The Service stressed that such practices violate the government’s Free TVET Policy, which guarantees free access to technical and vocational education for eligible students. It added that these actions undermine the Service’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and equity in school admissions.

To ensure accountability, investigative committees have been established to conduct a thorough and impartial inquiry. The committees’ composition will be announced soon, and their findings will guide further disciplinary measures.

Meanwhile, the heads of the three schools have been placed on 30-day administrative leave, effective immediately. Their responsibilities have been temporarily assigned to the respective Regional Directors:


  • Agona Swedru Technical Institute – Madam Hannah Asamoah, Central Regional Director


  • Sunyani Technical Institute – Mr. Gabriel Gyamfi, Bono Regional Director


  • Madina Technical Institute – Engr. Juliana Nkrumah, Greater Accra Regional Director

The Ghana TVET Service reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on corruption, extortion, and misconduct that undermines public confidence in the TVET system.

“Management remains unwavering in its commitment to upholding accountability, transparency, and fairness in the administration of Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions across the country,” the statement concluded.

The Service also assured parents, students, and the public of its continued dedication to safeguarding the integrity of the admission process and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism nationwide.
