A founding member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus “Goosie” Obuadum Tanoh, has expressed worry over the management of the economy by the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party government.

According to the NDC Flagbearer aspirant, the current “economy is very vulnerable”.

He said for the economy to survive, government must direct its policies towards ensuring that Ghana produce and consume its goods.

Mr. Tandoh made the observations in an interview with Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Monday, September 17, 2018.

“It is not the oil that will make the economy resilient. It is the goods and services that we produce and all our designs and policies must be towards producing and consuming things locally”, he explained.

According to him, Ghana as a country has been addicted to the level of de-industrialization and that everything must come from abroad and that is what is bringing the weakness in the cedi against the dollar.

“We need the dollar to survive. We demand dollars than we do to the cedi, but our economy is not responding to producing things that we need locally. We import rice, tomatoes paste. Unfortunately, everything is imported so it affects every government”. -he added.

Goosie who is a known face within the NDC fraternity broke away from party in 1998 when former President JJ Rawlings chose the late Atta Mills to lead the party in the 2000 elections, but has rejoin in the hope to win power from the ruling New Patriotic Party in 2020.

He’s seeking a return to the NDC to contest for the presidency.
