Ghanaian defender David Oduro has expressed his excitement after being unveiled as one of Barcelona's new signings on Tuesday.
Oduro, who joins the club alongside compatriot Abdul Aziz Issah from Dreams FC, marks a significant moment in Ghanaian football by becoming the first player to be transferred directly from a Ghanaian club to Barcelona.
Oduro, who signed a three-year contract with the Catalan giants, was recruited from Accra Lions, where he made a strong impression over the last two seasons.
Reflecting on his move, Oduro shared his joy in an interview with Sporty TV.
“First of all, I’m very, very happy because getting this opportunity is not very easy, especially from Ghana here. So, for me, I’m very happy," he said. "It’s historic for Ghana, being the first player to move straightly from here to Barcelona is great news for Ghana."
Often compared to Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, Oduro draws inspiration from Barcelona’s own young talent, Alejandro Balde, and is eager to learn from his new teammate.
“It will be a great feeling because I have always watched him play and I admire him a lot, so it will be a great feeling for me,” Oduro added.
Oduro will begin his journey with Barcelona B, but given the club's current financial situation and their well-known policy of nurturing young talents, he could have the chance to break into the first team if he performs well this season.
This move represents a major step for Oduro and a proud moment for Ghanaian football.
