Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo is set for a fresh chapter in his career after completing a season-long loan move to Qatari Premier League side Umm Salal SC from English Championship club Plymouth Argyle.

The 26-year-old’s switch to the Middle East comes just six months after he signed for Plymouth in January 2025 from Swedish outfit IF Elfsborg.

While his move to England was met with excitement, Baidoo’s stint was frustrated by limited playing time, managing only 13 appearances in a turbulent campaign that saw Plymouth relegated to League One.

Seeking a more stable environment and regular football, Baidoo has opted for a loan spell in Qatar, where Umm Salal finished second in the 2024/25 Qatar Stars League, and are eyeing a strong domestic and continental push.

The deal runs through the 2025/26 season and does not include a purchase option, meaning Baidoo will return to Plymouth at the end of the campaign.

For the versatile Ghanaian playmaker—known for his vision, work rate, and technical skill—the move offers not only a chance to reignite his club career but also to reposition himself on the radar of Ghana’s national team ahead of important international qualifiers.

Umm Salal are hopeful Baidoo can bring the creativity and experience they need in midfield, while the player himself is embracing the opportunity for consistent game time in a competitive and financially secure league.
