Swedish Superettan side Helsingborgs IF has confirmed the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Samuel Asoma on a four-year deal from Allsvenskan club Västerås SK.

The 22-year-old, who spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Trelleborgs FF, is now set to continue his career in the Swedish second-tier league with Helsingborgs IF ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Asoma’s transfer was officially confirmed by both clubs, with Helsingborgs IF expressing excitement over the move. The midfielder has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until the 2028 season. After putting pen to paper, Asoma expressed his enthusiasm about joining the club:

"I didn’t know much about the club, but I played against HIF this season and it was really cool. Partly for the arena and facilities, partly for the supporters who were fantastic.

I am very happy to come and play for the club. It's a challenge I couldn't refuse as I now enter a new phase of my career.

I am a player who gives everything on the field so the HIF supporters can expect one hundred percent from me every time."

Helsingborgs IF Sporting Director Mikael Dahlberg praised Asoma’s strong performances, particularly his successful stint at Trelleborgs FF, highlighting his fit within the club's style of play.

"It is a very confident player who will increase the competition in our midfield," Dahlberg noted.

Born in Berekum, Ghana, Asoma moved to Belgium at a young age, where he represented the Belgian national youth teams from U15 to U19.

Despite this, he remains eligible to switch his international allegiance and represent Ghana at the senior level in the future.

Asoma’s move to Helsingborgs IF marks an exciting new chapter in his career, as he aims to make an impact in the Swedish second-tier competition.
