Ghanaian midwife Grace Benyin found dead in Ireland after going missing
7th January 2026
The tragic death of Grace Aseidua Benyin, a Ghanaian midwife and mother of four residing in Ireland, has left her family and the Ghanaian diaspora in shock.
Benyin, reported missing weeks earlier, was discovered in December 2025 near the Holy Year Cross in County Tipperary. DNA testing confirmed her identity, and the Gardaí described her passing as a “personal tragedy,” with investigations ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Benyin had moved to Ireland for work, later sponsoring her husband, Frederick Amofa, and their children to join her at significant personal expense.
According to sources close to the family, tensions arose over financial disputes, prompting her to seek a restraining order citing fears for her safety, and alleging stalking, threats, and abuse.
The stress reportedly led her to take compassionate leave from her job as a midwife shortly before her death.
A preliminary autopsy suggests natural causes or exhaustion may have contributed to her passing, though official findings from the State Pathologist and coroner are still pending.
The ambiguity surrounding her death has left family, friends, and the Ghanaian community in Ireland calling for clarity.
Tributes have poured in for Benyin, remembering her dedication as a healthcare professional and her commitment as a mother, while many await a full investigation to understand the events leading to this heartbreaking loss.
