Ghanaian forward Mamudu Moro has signed a six-month deal with Finnish second-tier side Ekenäs IF, the club confirmed on Monday, July 21 2025.
The 30-year-old striker arrives as a free agent following his departure from Jordanian outfit Al Faisaly earlier this year. His signing is expected to bolster the team’s attacking options as they aim to secure a return to the topflight after suffering relegation last season.
“I like the project EIF has going on,” Moro said in his first interview with the club. “I had a good chat with the coaches and the staff before making my decision. Everyone has been welcoming — it already feels like I’ve been part of the team for a long time. There’s a real family feeling here.”
Born in Ghana but also holding Swedish nationality, Moro brings a wealth of experience to the Ykkönen side, having played extensively in Scandinavia. His CV includes stints at Swedish clubs such as BW90, IFK Hässleholm, Mjällby AIF, Helsingborgs IF, and Skövde AIK.
Known for his versatility and work rate, Moro is expected to be a key figure in the second half of the season as Ekenäs aim to climb back into the Veikkausliiga.
“We are very pleased to have Mamudu join us for the remainder of the season,” said Ekenäs IF sporting director Peter Haglund. “He is a quality player with a proven track record. We hope his presence will significantly strengthen our campaign to finish among the top two teams and push for promotion.”
Ekenäs IF currently sit mid-table in the Ykkönen but remain within striking distance of the playoff spots. The addition of a seasoned forward like Moro is seen as a strategic move to inject experience and leadership into a relatively young squad.
Moro’s arrival also marks a broader ambition by the club to build a more competitive side capable of sustaining top-tier football. With his ability to both score and assist, he is expected to quickly adapt to the demands of Finnish football.
Having already begun training with the team, Moro is eligible to make his debut in the upcoming league fixture. His signing adds to growing list of Ghanaian players plying their trade in Finland’s competitive second division.
