Ghana’s hopes of securing David Akologo as a goalkeeper for the Black Stars have received a significant boost after the shot-stopper returned home from Bolivia's camp for the Copa America due to injury.

The Aurora goalkeeper suffered a broken thumb before Bolivia's friendly against Mexico, delaying his debut for the South American side.

Akologo was unable to recover in time for the tournament, which began on Friday in the United States, and subsequently had to withdraw from the squad.

He was with the Bolivian team in Chicago during preparation before sustaining the injury.

His international future remains uncertain, as he has yet to make a competitive appearance for Bolivia. Bolivia will start their Copa America campaign with a match against the United States on Sunday.

This development leaves an opportunity for Ghana's Football Association, who had previously invited Akologo for games against Nigeria and Uganda in March.

However, he was unable to join the Black Stars at that time due to an early call-up by Bolivia.

Black Stars goalkeeper trainer Fatau Dauda is reportedly in discussions with Akologo, encouraging him to reconsider his decision to play for Bolivia.

Dauda is keen on strengthening the goalkeeping department for Ghana, and Akologo's availability could be a valuable addition to the team.
