The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has dismissed as false claims that the Government of Ghana plans to award bauxite concessions at Nyinahin to businessman Ibrahim Mahama.
In a statement issued on Thursday, GIADEC noted a publication alleging that the government intends to grant bauxite concessions to Mr. Mahama, stressing that “no such plan exists.” The Corporation described the claims as misleading and urged the public to disregard them.
GIADEC explained that, under John Dramani Mahama’s vision to ensure Ghana derives maximum value from its natural resources, executive approval was granted for GIADEC to hold leases over all known bauxite reserves in the country. This, the Corporation said, was intended to strengthen its mandate and attract appropriate investments and strategic partnerships for the sector.
According to the statement, GIADEC secured six mining leases over bauxite concessions—including the Nyinahin deposits—in June 2025. These leases are currently before the Parliament of Ghana for ratification.
GIADEC further emphasised that under the government’s new policy framework, all bauxite concessions will remain with GIADEC as the leaseholder, and measures are being implemented to ensure this arrangement endures beyond the tenure of the current administration.
“Any publication suggesting that the Government plans to grant bauxite concessions to any individual is false and should be treated as such,” the statement said.
The statement was signed by Priscilla Hemans, Public Affairs and Communications Manager of GIADEC, on behalf of management.
