The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced Gold Fields Ghana Limited as the new headline sponsor of the Ghana Women’s Premier League, marking a significant boost for women’s football in the country.

The agreement ushers in a new era for the top-flight competition, with Gold Fields taking over from Malta Guinness after the beverage company’s sponsorship came to an end.

The GFA says the partnership will bring fresh investment into the Women’s Premier League as it continues efforts to improve the competition’s quality, increase its visibility and ensure its long-term sustainability.

In a statement, the Football Association described the sponsorship as a major milestone in its commitment to developing women’s football through strategic partnerships.

“The partnership represents a significant investment in the women’s game and underscores the GFA’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the Women’s Premier League through strategic collaborations that enhance its competitiveness, visibility and long-term sustainability,” the statement said.

The GFA also expressed appreciation to Gold Fields Ghana Limited for supporting the growth of women’s football and welcomed the mining company to the Ghana football family.

The announcement comes at a time when women’s football in Ghana is enjoying growing success. The Black Queens are stepping up preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, while the Black Maidens recently secured qualification for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after overcoming Senegal in the final round of qualifiers.

The Football Association said more information on the sponsorship package, the league’s new branding and identity, as well as plans for implementing the partnership, will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

The sponsorship is expected to provide much-needed financial backing for clubs competing in the Women’s Premier League while further enhancing the league’s profile as the GFA intensifies efforts to grow the women’s game across Ghana.
