The government has announced that it is ready to begin enrolling prospective homeowners for affordable housing units under the National Homeownership Fund (NHF).
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand access to affordable housing and reduce the country’s housing deficit, particularly for working-class citizens who face challenges in securing decent accommodation.
Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources Ghana, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, revealed the plans after inspecting ongoing housing projects at Shai Hills and Tema Community 22 on Monday, March 2, 2026.
He noted that the housing units, which are nearing completion, are primarily intended for low- and middle-income earners. “The houses are almost 95 to 98 percent completed. This means we can start signing agreements with people to secure the units, either through rent-to-own arrangements or via mortgage schemes facilitated by the NHF in partnership with banks,” he said.
The Minister further explained that the National Homeownership Fund has collaborated with financial institutions to provide flexible mortgage options, making homeownership more accessible to ordinary Ghanaians.
