Inusah Fuseini, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central has said eccentric politician and MP for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong has become NPP’s conscience with regards to which public official to prosecute.

The popular financier of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2017 publicly stated that he will personally ensure that former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni, is jailed.

According to him, Dr Opuni presided over corruption during his tenure and believes this affected cocoa production in Ghana, hence he must be exposed and jailed to serve as a deterrent to others.

“Opuni will go to jail and I will make sure he pays dearly for his crimes. If we refuse to jail him, Ghanaians will vote against us in the next four years and so we need to get corrupt officials like him away from the country” he said.

The Attorney General on March 14, 2018, sued Dr Opuni for causing financial loss to the state.

He together with a businessman, Seidu Agongo, owner of Class Group of companies are facing 27 charges of willfully causing financial loss to the state to the tune of GH¢217million in three separate contracts for the supply of fertilisers from Germany.

They are scheduled to appear at the High Court in Accra on Friday, 23rd March 2018 for trial.

Commenting on the matter on News File on Joy FM, Inusah Fuseini who’s the Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs stated that the government appears to pander to Ken Agyapong as they appear to act on his utterances.

“Somebody appears to be the conscience of the NPP and that is Hon. Ken Agyapong, anytime he says somebody will be jailed we’ll see a charged against that fellow. Now he says Abeiku Santana must be jailed and we’ll see a charge sheet in court. He says he (Abeiku) is a thief and that he stole a state car. We don’t want trial by media.”

It would be recalled that the former Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police (COP), Mr Bright Oduro who was sacked from office also accused Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong for masterminding his untimely removal from office.

According to him, he was not given a fair hearing into allegations leveled against him by Kennedy Agyapong that he was protecting and shielding criminals and land guards at Miotso in Greater Accra.
