The government has unveiled plans to construct approximately 600 Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds across the country by the close of 2025, in a bid to improve access to primary healthcare, particularly in underserved areas.
According to Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the initiative requires each district to build two new CHPS compounds within the year.
“Each district is required to construct two new CHPS compounds this year. Altogether, that amounts to about 600 CHPS compounds in 2025 alone. If we sustain this momentum, we could exceed 2,000 CHPS compounds over the next four years,” he stated.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu described the project as a significant step in bridging healthcare gaps and strengthening service delivery in rural and hard-to-reach communities.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader agenda to decentralize healthcare and ensure that basic health services are available within walking distance for all Ghanaians.
