Gov’t vows full probe into mysterious death of Ghanaian student in Latvia

Government has moved to the centre of efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of a Ghanaian student in Latvia, pledging a full-scale diplomatic and forensic push to uncover the truth.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says the state will leave no stone unturned in its quest for answers following the death of Nana Adjei, whose passing abroad has triggered anxiety among relatives and the wider Ghanaian community.

According to the Minister, a high-powered delegation from Ghana will arrive in Latvia on January 20 to directly engage local authorities and track the investigation at close range.

The team will include members of the bereaved family alongside forensic experts to support independent efforts to determine the cause of death.

Mr. Ablakwa stressed that Ghana expects full transparency and cooperation from Latvian officials, noting that the matter will be pursued through appropriate diplomatic and legal channels to guarantee credibility and fairness.

He further disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama is personally invested in the case and has directed that every necessary step be taken to protect the interests of the family and ensure justice is served.

“The dignity and safety of Ghanaians abroad are non-negotiable,” the Minister said, adding that the government will firmly defend the rights of its citizens wherever they may be.

Mr. Ablakwa assured that the Foreign Affairs Ministry will maintain constant engagement with authorities in Latvia and keep the public informed as developments unfold, reinforcing government’s commitment to accountability and justice in the case.
