Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has played down suggestions that returning striker Albert Amoah is guaranteed a place in his starting line-up, despite the forward’s dream start on his return to the club.

Amoah, 25, rejoined the Porcupine Warriors on loan from Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi until the end of the season and wasted little time making his presence felt. He found the net on his return as Kotoko cruised to a convincing 3-0 win over Bibiani Gold Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium over the weekend.

But Zito has made it clear that goals alone will not earn the striker special treatment.

“I cannot say he will get an automatic place,” the Kotoko coach said. “Training will decide everything. That is why we train.”

The former Ghana international stressed that his selection policy is built on performance, understanding and balance within the team, rather than reputation or a single standout display.

“I don’t have a say now,” he added. “What happens on the training ground will show us what to do. It’s about understanding and combinations. The players you pair who give you results are the best.”

Zito’s comments underline the competitive environment he is trying to foster at the Kumasi-based club as Kotoko push for consistency in the second half of the Ghana Premier League season.

For Amoah, the message is clear: his promising return is only the beginning. The striker will be aiming to impress again when Kotoko travel to face Heart of Lions in their Matchday 21 fixture at the Kpando Sports Stadium, knowing that every training session now counts.
