The Greater Accra Handball Association (GAHA) has indefinitely postponed their scheduled annual elective congress which was originally scheduled for last Saturday, November 2, 2019.

This was as a result of the less interest of members in vying for the various executive roles as only 1 person filed and submitted his nominations as at the deadline date, October 25.

According to a Press release from the GAHA Secretariat, nominations for the various positions will be re-opens to allow interested  candidates file.

The Executive of the Association will however meet in the coming days to fix new dates for the reopening and deadline of the nominations, as well as date for the Congress which will be held at the SoTT Auditorium of the Ghana Air Force Base, in Burma Camp.

Speaking on the subject, President of the Greater Accra Handball Association Paul Kofi Yesu Dadzie, quizzes how the Association can run without people occupying the various positions, believing there is ample time for Congress to be held before the close of the year.

Kofi Yesu noted that the current batch of executives are not the only people with ideas to run the affairs of Handball, encouraging interested people to come on board.

“You do the Association with human beings, so anyway that you need to work things around so that you can get people to come on board, you do it", the president said.

"We are not the only people with ideas to run handball in the region. Everybody can come on board for us to go on and I believe in that.

"It’s an Association, but you don’t have to behave in such a way that, if you are not there, things cannot work. We have a lot of people and even before we took over, people were steering the affairs of Handball.

"So whether we are there or not, we should have interested people to take over or be part of the Association", he concluded.

It is the first time that GAHA is experiencing such a circumstance where members are shy of contesting for the various positions.

And handball faithfuls will be hoping the issues will be resolved in time for the Greater Accra Handball league to resume.
