The Greater Accra Handball Association (GAHA) would have to meet again to elect new Executives to run their affairs after Congress strongly stood against the Election at their Saturday, February 15, 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the ‘S OF TT Auditorium at the Airforce Base, Burma Camp- La.

Members at Congress raised concerns over Referees allowances, Maintenance work on the court among others in the financial report they weren’t convinced with after all issues have been discussed at the AGM.

The argument on whether or not to continue with the election of new Executives took a lot of time to be settled on as the Greater Accra Regional Sports Director, Chairman and EC for the AGM, Iddrisu Ewuntomah’s advice of ‘going ahead with the election and giving time to the previous executives to rectify all anomalies in the report’ was rejected.

Congress also rejected a suggestion to have Interim Executive to carry out with activities of GAHA, while rectification of the Report is done.

It became evident, that congress wasn’t happy with how the current executive steer the affairs of the Association but none (apart from 1) was ready to contest for any of the positions which were vacant since the awareness of the Elective Congress was created at the 2019 AGM and also nomination opened.

President of the Greater Accra Handball Association, Paul Kofi Yesu Dadzie, in expressing his worry over the decision by members, says they will come back in 2 weeks’ time for the election after all issues raised about the finances have been sorted.

“This should have been our elective congress and AGM. Since we took over 4 years ago, every year, we account to the people and move on. Last year happened to be the year that we managed to get sponsorship and apart from that, all activities were adhered to. People developed much interest into it. Nominations were opened and people weren’t showing interest. Few people took forms and we came for the AGM but people were not enthused with the report that we gave. We are the stewards, so if our stewardship is not acknowledged by the people who put us there, then we have to come back to account again. If they are satisfied, then we will have the elections.”

Currently, it is not known whether the GAHA will open up nominations again.

Incumbent President and Secretary, Paul Dadzie and Eric Sena Adjeyi picked forms to contest again.

Gifty Okai is vying for the Vice President position while Harrison Duodu has no challenger for the Treasurer slot. Hillary Mills, who had picked form earlier also remains the only person vying for the position of the Organizer.

All now await the new date and venue for the all-important Election before the 2020 season begins while Ghana Gas sponsorship remains a major boost.
