LA Galaxy manager Greg Vanney has praised Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil for his exceptional debut season, which culminated in the club’s record-extending sixth MLS Cup victory.

Paintsil, who joined LA Galaxy in February 2024 on a four-year deal from Belgian side KRC Genk, has been a revelation in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

The 26-year-old capped his debut season in style by scoring a decisive goal in LA Galaxy's 2-1 victory over New York Red Bulls in the 2024 MLS Cup final at the Dignity Health Sports Park.

The winger struck early, finding the net just nine minutes into the match after an incisive pass from Gastón Brugman.

Serbian forward Dejan Joveljić doubled the lead four minutes later, with Sean Nealis scoring a consolation goal for the Red Bulls.

In a post-match interview, Vanney lauded Paintsil and other new signings for their immediate impact on the team:

“It was about our style of play, about the profiles that we wanted, and finding guys that we felt like really fit with the guys we had… Joe (Joseph Paintsil) to start with them."

“I mean their ability to adapt to this league quickly and just have incredible seasons… they hit the ground running and had huge seasons."

Paintsil’s Stellar Debut Season

Paintsil proved instrumental in LA Galaxy’s campaign, scoring 14 goals and providing 8 assists in 34 regular-season matches.

His form peaked in the playoffs, where he notched 4 goals and 1 assist in just five matches, showcasing his knack for performing on the big stage.

The Ghanaian’s dynamic play and ability to adapt quickly have made him a fan favorite and a pivotal figure in LA Galaxy's success story.

Paintsil’s contributions underline his value to the team and set high expectations for the upcoming seasons.
