The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has officially approved the fee structure for the University of Ghana for the 2025/2026 academic year, seeking to bring clarity and ease growing public concern over rising tertiary education costs.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 12, and signed by Director-General Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, GTEC announced that the Academic Facility User Fee will remain unchanged from the 2024/2025 academic year—a move aimed at protecting students from additional financial strain.

“This decision is intended to ensure stability and reduce the burden on students and their families,” the statement said.

Under the approved schedule, students will pay:

  • GH₵50 as SRC dues

  • GH₵150 as SRC Development Levy

  • GH₵250 as GRASAG Development Levy

  • GH₵122 as Telecel Broadband Levy for all undergraduate students, including freshers

In addition, GTEC has sanctioned a one-time 75th Anniversary Levy of GH₵100, which will apply only for the 2025/2026 academic year and will not be repeated in subsequent years.

The Commission also reminded students that they have the right to opt out of certain levies where applicable and should be properly informed by the University.

“This announcement is to resolve issues surrounding the 2025/2026 fee schedule for the University of Ghana. We count on the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure full compliance,” GTEC stated.

The directive forms part of GTEC’s broader push to improve transparency, accountability and fairness in fee administration across Ghana’s tertiary education sector.
