The Ministry of Health, through its Pharmacy Directorate, is rolling out a new national framework to guide the allocation of limited health resources, with a strong focus on equity and fairness.

Speaking to Citi News on Friday, December 20, the Acting Director of Pharmacy, Saviour Yevutsey, said the framework, developed with support from the Norwegian government, introduces clear, community-informed criteria for prioritising health interventions. He explained that the approach is intended to promote transparency in decision-making and reduce disparities in access to essential healthcare services across the country.

Mr. Yevutsey noted that the framework acknowledges funding constraints within the health sector and seeks to ensure that available resources are used in ways that deliver the greatest overall benefit.

“We are implementing a project with the Norwegian government focused on setting priorities. There are several health interventions available, but funding remains a challenge, making prioritisation necessary. When interventions are proposed, they will be assessed using selected criteria within the various health communities,” he said.

He added that the framework will support policymakers in making informed, evidence-based decisions while ensuring that no Ghanaian is disadvantaged due to location or limited resources.
