Ghana Premier League side Accra Hearts of Oak is set to appoint Dutchman Erik van der Meer as the new head coach after the departure of Samuel Boadu.

The phobians have endured a torrid start to the 2022/2023 season leading to the sacking of Samuel Boadu who won the club their first major trophy in nine years with the league triumph two seasons ago.

Hearts of Oak in three matches have failed to secure a win as they have drawn two games and lost one despite strengthening the squad with new recruits during pre-season.

The club hierarchy wants to reclaim the league title from the grasp of fierce rivals Asante Kotoko who won the league title last season.

Hearts will face AS Real Bamako in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

According to reports, Boadu's fate had been sealed long ago and the club was waiting for the right opportunity to strike and the drawn game with Kotoko sealed his fate.

The 55-year-old Dutchman was reportedly in the stands as Kotoko drew 1-1 with Hearts of Oak.

He holds a UEFA Pro Licence and is without a club since leaving the Saudi Arabia U-20 job in 2021.

Van der Meer has in the past worked for Qatar SC, Honved Budapest, PFK Stal Kamyanske, Frenz United, Al Ahli Doha amongst others.

The Dutch tactician has also been in charge as an academy manager of Ukrainian side Metalurg Donetsk and director of football at Qatari club Al Shamal SC.

As a player, he played for Veendam , FC Utrecht, Real Murcia, Cambuur among others.
