The National Chief Imam, Shaikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has reaffirmed the legitimacy of Shaikh Ali Muniru as the Volta Regional Imam in the wake of the shooting incident at the Ho Central Mosque on Friday, December 26.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 29, and signed by his Personal Assistant, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed Marzuq Azindoo, the National Chief Imam said the violence arose from a leadership matter that had already been conclusively resolved.

He stressed that Shaikh Muniru remains the duly recognised Volta Regional Imam, with Shaikh Anas serving as his Deputy, noting that the decision was reached through extensive consultation and mediation rather than imposition.

According to the statement, the National Chief Imam expressed deep disappointment that a settled issue had escalated into violence within a sacred place of worship, describing the incident as a clear violation of Islamic teachings and values.

Referring to both clerics as his “children,” His Eminence said he expects unity, mutual respect and cooperation from them in serving Allah and the Muslim community. He also called on their followers to remain law-abiding and committed to peace.

The National Chief Imam further urged the Ghana Police Service to conduct investigations into the incident with fairness and impartiality, cautioning that selective justice could undermine public confidence and worsen tensions.

He concluded by praying for the speedy recovery of those injured and appealed for reconciliation among all parties, citing Islamic teachings that emphasise brotherhood, peace and unity.
