Gabon have appointed Spaniard, Jose Antonio Camacho as the head coach as they prepare to host the rest of Africa in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be staged in January.

The appointment of the 61-year-old was announced on Friday as a replacement of Jorge Costa, the Portuguese who was sacked last month for underperformance.

The former Real Madrid defender has been jobless since his last assignment as coach of the Chinese national team in 2013.

Camacho had 81 caps for the Spanish national team as left back and  had a successful careers with Rea Madrid before coaching at several top Spanish clubs, including Sevilla, Espanyol and Real.
