Query: I am a 26-year-old working woman and lately, I have started getting angry at people and things for no good reason. I lose my temper within seconds and get emotional afterwards. I think I have changed as a person. I used to be a jovial person till few months back and had a very optimistic nature. Even though I don't have any major issues going on in my life but I still get very upset over little things. I want to know how to get hold over this feeling. —By Anonymous
Response by Ms. Rachana Awatramani: Anger is a strong feeling of annoyance and displeasure. Sometimes extreme expression of anger can impact your daily life and relationships. Most of the time, we get angry when our desires or expectations are not fulfilled.
I comprehend that you are a 26-year-old working woman and you have been getting angry very often for no reason, which leads to emotional disturbance afterwards. I understand that it can be a difficult situation for you as you are unable to find out the reason for your sudden behavior change and extreme emotional reactions. You have stated that you used to be jovial person till few months ago.
Firstly, I would recommend you to get a health check-up done to understand if you have any physical concerns that are leading to emotional outbursts. Secondly, you can reflect and see if anything has changed in your lifestyle or have been working too much and getting exhausted.
Thirdly, consider to meet a counsellor for your anger management. Lastly, you can try mindfulness techniques like meditation or yoga few times in a week.
There can be multiple reasons for anger to be triggered. Observe if there is a particular situation or thought which is triggering your anger.
