Actress Salma Mumin has revealed that she is not depending solely on acting to survive.
According to her, instead of crying that the movie industry is not paying, she has decided to make hay while the sun shines.
“We live in a time where it will be bad for anyone or any actress to say his or her only source of livelihood is from the scripts they get. I took that decision to engage in other things a long time ago so I do other things aside the movies.
“For instance, I have a food joint called Salma Foods and so far it has been good. But hey, the bottom line is that, it’s not good to draw water from just one well.”
Asked if she ventured into the catering business because there is no money in the movie industry, she said, “no not at all, the movie is doing well, it is paying contrary to what people say, on my part though. If it was not, I am not sure I will still be in it.”
On what the future holds for her, she said, “I am not one person who has a list of things to do. I only pray and leave everything to God to take over.
"In his own time, everything will be fine and the world will hear from me. As for projects, I have a lot I am working on and would be working on but at the right time, I will let it out.”
Salma, who was adjudged the Best Promising International Actress at the Papyrus Magazine Screen Actors Award (PAMSAA) held in Nigeria in 2013 said she was grateful to her fans for their support.
“I want my fans to know that I appreciate their support very much. The road has not been all smooth but God has brought me this far. I will not let them down. I will continue to work hard to fulfill my dream of being one of the top actresses Africa has ever produced,” she said.
Some of the movies Salma has featured in include Passion and Soul, The Will, Seduction, No Apology, Purple Rose, Crazy, Five Brides, Happy Death Day and Family Album which will be premiered next month.
