Ghana midfielder Amankwah Forson has set his sights on making the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by Canada, USA, and Mexico.
The 22-year-old, a product of the West Africa Football Academy (WAFA), recently signed a long-term deal with English Championship side Norwich City from Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg, keeping him at Carrow Road until 2028 with an option to extend.
Forson, who made his senior Ghana debut in a friendly against Nigeria in March 2024, says representing his country on football’s biggest stage is a lifelong dream.
“Definitely, I’m dreaming of going to the World Cup because if you’re a football player, especially a young player, playing in the World Cup says a lot,” he told Flashscore. “I need to do everything to be part of the squad.”
The midfielder previously had loan stints with Austrian sides FC Liefering and SCR Altach. He was in Ghana’s provisional squad for AFCON 2023 but missed out on the final list.
Forson made a mark at Norwich last season, scoring twice in a Championship clash against Coventry City on January 4, 2025. He featured in 21 league matches, netting two goals. The former Salzburg man currently has two caps for the four-time African champions.
