Auxerre midfielder Elisha Owusu has set his sights on a return to the Ghana national team as the Black Stars gear up for the decisive stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 27-year-old, who has missed recent call-ups due to injury, stressed his determination to fight for a place in Otto Addo’s squad.
“I want to be in the team [for the World Cup Qualifiers]. I will do my maximum to be in the team,” Owusu told Flashscore.
Ghana currently sit top of Group I with 15 points from six matches, ahead of Comoros and Madagascar, and remain on course to secure a ticket to the global showpiece in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The Black Stars face two crucial fixtures in September:
-
September 4 – Chad vs Ghana, Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno, N’Djamena
-
September 8 – Ghana vs Mali, Accra Sports Stadium
Both matches are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s qualification hopes.
Owusu, who has 13 competitive caps for the Black Stars, last featured in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in November 2024. A strong start to the new Ligue 1 season with Auxerre could put him firmly back in contention.
