President Nana Akufo-Addo has hit back at opposition politicians who have criticised his running of the country as well as the state of the economy that they believe is poor.

While intentionally refusing to mention anyone by name, the President said he was not responding to any of the flagbearer aspirants until they are duly elected as party presidential candidates.

In a tweet posted on Saturday morning, the President wrote: “I’m sure you have seen and heard some of the presidential aspirants of the leading opposition party taking jabs at my government in order, ostensibly, to prop up their campaign."

“And whilst at it, they are desperately trying to get me to respond to them."

The tweet went on to say that the President "will not respond to presidential aspirants." Akufo-Addo said he will be ready to listen to criticisms made by presidential candidates elected by their parties.

The President said it is after their internal party elections that he will engage those "who still think Ghanaians have short memories”.

Twelve men are vying for the slot of presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including former president John Mahama.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey-Korle constituency, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings joined the campaign team of former President John Dramani Mahama during its tour of the Greater Accra Region.
