Sudan's assistant coach, Ignatius Osei-Fosu, has expressed his eagerness to continue learning under his mentor, James Kwesi Appiah, while leaving the door open to potentially leading the Black Stars in the future—if supported by Appiah himself.

Osei-Fosu highlighted the significance of his ongoing mentorship under Appiah, emphasizing the invaluable lessons he continues to gain from working alongside the experienced coach.

“I think I need to learn more from Kwesi Appiah,” Osei-Fosu said, reflecting his commitment to personal and professional growth.

However, he acknowledged the possibility of stepping into the Black Stars role if his mentor deemed him ready.

“If he says, ‘Ignatius, I think you have been with me for one year now.

The Black Stars are calling you. I think you are ready to go,’ then it’s like a master blessing his servant to go and work,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of receiving Appiah’s endorsement.

Osei-Fosu made it clear that he would not pursue such an opportunity unilaterally, underscoring the value of humility and collaboration in his career.

“For me to take a sole decision and say, ‘Oh, the Black Stars have come, Ignatius can do the job,’ no,” he stated.

The duo of Osei-Fosu and Kwesi Appiah has proven effective, playing a crucial role in Sudan’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), including securing a vital four points from two matches against Ghana in the qualifiers.

Despite his success with Sudan, Osei-Fosu remains focused on his development under Appiah’s guidance, emphasizing the ongoing journey of learning and growth as a cornerstone of his coaching philosophy.
