A new state of the art hostel faciltity which has been named after the Inspector General of Police, John Kudalor, was officially  commissioned 0n Friday at the Oforikrom Divisional police barracks in the Ashanti Region.

The event which took place at the Oforikrom police barracks saw the presence of the Ashanti Regional minister, the IGP himself ,the Ashanti Regional police commander and some traditional leaders.

The  new facility, which has been named after the IGP for his immense contribution to the service was built under a public-private partnership agreement and expected to  help reduce the accommodation deficit currently facing the Police service.

The commissioning of the Ashanti Regional Police Transit Residential Accommodation at Oforikrom, comes at a time when the police officers are due to move from one region to another as the 2016 elections draw near, a strategy to ensure free and fair elections.

The John Kudalor hostel  has a conference hall, 4 flats and can house about 200 officers.It is also equipped with fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, and other modern security gadgets to ensure life is secured at the hostel.

The IGP, on his part commended the initiative and praised the Ashanti regional police command for its efforts to curb the infrastructural challenges bedevilling the police service

"Am delighted because this facility will further the police administration's efforts in  finding solution to accommodation challenges facing the service," he said.

"Over the years the police administration has embarked on various strategies and some initiatives aimed at soliciting support in improving our infrastructural needs.In these numerous efforts, notwithstanding, infrastructure continues to be a challenge to the service."

Working extra hard

The IGP called on all lands of police to be marked and secured to prevent them from being encroached by private developers.

Police operations in fighting crime in the Ashanti region, according to the IGP has been worthy of praise and urged the officers and men of the police service to work extra hard to ensure the Ashanti region remains peaceful before,during and after the election.

"I must commend  the Ashanti regional police commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye for the  dedication in fighting crime and ensuring the Ashanti region enjoys the peace it needs.

"I appeal to the officers and men of the service not to be complacent, let continue to work extra hard to combat crime to win the support and trust of the people.

The IGP also took the opportunity to express  his profound gratitude to the Ashanti Kingdom  for its support to the police to recapture all its land which, hitheto, were encroached upon by private hands.

DCOP John Kudalor stated that the police are going to act professionally during the election to ensure peace before, during and after the election.
